Immigrants come from all over the world to the United States for various reasons. Education is often a reason a young immigrant will temporarily relocate to the U.S. Whether they only seek to remain in the country for the duration of their education or hope to remain in the U.S.
after they achieve their degree, it is often the case an immigrant seeks to work during or immediately following their education program. Whether they are in Florida or any other state in the nation, it is crucial that they understand the employment immigration laws the outline with situation.When a student comes to the United States for an education they have two visa options. First, they can obtain an F-1 visa, which is known as an academic visa.
This allows them to enter the country legally to become a full-time student at an accredited university, college, seminary, conservatory, high school, elementary school, other academic institutions or a language-training program. Students with an F-1 visa are not able to work off-campus during their first academic year but are able to obtain on-campus employment that is subject to certain conditions and restrictions. After the completion of their first year, F-1 students are able of obtain three types of employment, including curricular practical training, optional practical training or science, technology, engineering and mathematics optional practical training.The second type of student visa is the M-1 visa, which is also known as a vocational student visa.
M-1 students are only able to engage in practical training and can only occur after they have completed their studies. In either case, F-1 and M-1 students are only able to obtain off-campus employment related to their area of study. In addition, it must be authorized by the Designated School Official and USCIS.Immigrant students who relocate to the U.S.
for their education often seek student work visas. Whether they seek a work permit or approval for a specific job, it is important that immigrant students or recent graduates understand their rights and options so they take the appropriate steps for employment.
